About the Authors

David Sherry

David Sherry teaches History of Philosophy, Logic & Philosophy of Mathematics at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. David earned his B.A. from the University of Montana and his  Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School in 1982.  David has published articles on Logic, Philosophy of Mathematics and Philosophy of Science. David Sherry's paper "Formal Logic for Informal Logicians" was the winner of the 2005 AILACT Essay Prize.

Sister Prudence Allen

Sister Prudence Allen is Chair of the Department of Philosophy at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver, Colorado and Distinguished Professor Emerita, Concordia University, Montreal. A member of the Religious Sisters of Mercy since 1983, Sister Allen studied philosophy at the University of Rochester and at Claremont Graduate School earning her Ph.D. in 1967. From 1969 to 1996 she taught philosophy at Sir George Williams (later Concordia) University in Montreal, and was Principal of Lonergan University College at Concordia from 1991 to 1994. In 1997, at the request of the Archbishop of Denver, Sister Allen and three other Sisters of Mercy were invited to assist in the establishment of a new archdiocesan seminary in Denver.

Gary Overvold

Gary Overvold is Professor of Philosophy and Adjunct Professor of Comparative Literature at Clark University, Worcester, MA.
He received a B.A. from St. Olaf College in 1962 and a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School in 1965. In the course of his career he has held teaching or research appointments at, among others, the University of Louvain-Husserl Archives, and the universities of British Columbia, Trier, Versailles, Luxembourg, as well as a number of U.S. universities. He has published on a range of topics including: Husserl and Phenomenology, Modernism, Continental Philosophy, the Enlightenment, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Management Ethics, Philosophy of Culture, the Humanities, The European Constitution, etc. He is the editor of the journal Idealistic Studies and is past chair of Clark University’s Philosophy Department.

Vernon E. Kooy

Vernon Kooy is a retired contractor, cabinetmaker and craftsman currently teaching Ethics online at Central Community College in Nebraska.  Vernon earned a B.A. in Philosophy from Central College, Pella, IA, did graduate work in Philosophy at UCLA, and earned his Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School in 1972.  He taught philosophy at Pasadena City College and at Hastings College. During an economic downturn Vernon re-educated himself to be a computer draftsman, and served for a number of years as Drafting Manager for a design firm in Omaha, NE.  Vernon has also done work in font design, especially Greek fonts in the Renaissance style. Never losing his love for Philosophy he obtained an adjunct teaching position immediately upon retirement.

Janice Daurio

Janice Daurio is a philosophy professor at Moorpark College, CA and has earned the college’s 10th annual Distinguished Faculty Chair Award.  She has published articles in Ethics and the History of Philosophy.  She holds masters' degrees in philosophy and religious studies, and a doctoral degree from Claremont Graduate University. In 1985 she married theologian Dr. Paul Ford, professor of theology and liturgy at St. John's Seminary in Camarillo.  In addition to her philosophical interests she and her husband have been involved in the C. S. Lewis Foundation, bringing Religion, Literature and Philosophy together in a unique perspective.
